What Those Numbers on Your Remedies Really Mean

Let’s dive into the hot (and sometimes confusing) topic of potency! What makes homeopathy such a safe and effective option is the potency - the degree of dilution.

Let’s take arsenic for example. You’d never take arsenic in its original form, because it can cause severe diarrhoea, vomiting and even death. But when that same substance is heavily diluted and shaken in homeopathic preparation, it becomes a powerful and safe medicine for treating diarrhoea, vomiting and gastro.

This is the magic of homeopathy: a substance that can cause symptoms in a large dose can cure those same symptoms in a minute, energetic dose - stimulating the body’s natural healing response rather than suppressing it.

So what exactly is “potency”?

Hahnemann, known as The Father of Homeopathy, developed a unique dilution and succussion (vigorous shaking) method to reduce side effects and enhance energetic strength - a radical move compared to the harsh medicine of his time.

Here’s how it works:

  • One part of the original substance is mixed with 99 parts of alcohol or water (a ratio of 1:100) and then vigorously shaken - this produces a 1C potency.

  • Then, one drop of that 1C solution is again mixed with 99 parts of solvent and shaken - giving you a 2C potency.

  • This process is repeated until the desired potency is reached.

So, a 6C remedy has been diluted and succussed six times, a 30C thirty times, and so on.

Now here’s the wild part - once you reach around 12C, you’ve passed Avogadro’s number, meaning there’s none of the crude/original matter remaining - only its energetic imprint. And it’s that energetic signature that stimulates the body’s healing response.

Low, Medium and High Potencies

  • Low potencies (3C–12C): These act on the physical level. Think coughs, bruises, worms, or acute infections. You’ll often repeat them more frequently - up to a few times a day.

  • Medium potencies (30C–200C): These act on both physical and emotional layers - things like remedies for birthing, anxiety with stomach pain, or recurrent hormonal symptoms.

  • High potencies (1M, 10M and beyond): These act deeply on the mental and emotional plane - perfect for more constitutional, chronic or emotionally charged cases.

A good rule of thumb: lower = physical, higher = emotional/constitutional.

Homochords: Working Across Layers

Sometimes a single potency just doesn’t match the patient’s symptom picture or doesn’t reach deep enough - this is where homochords come in.

Kentian Homochords

A Kentian Homochord combines several potencies of the same remedy (for example, 6C, 30C, 200C, 1M) into one bottle.

This allows the remedy to act across all layers - physical, emotional and mental - simultaneously.

It’s a beautiful option for those who are sensitive, complex, or have multiple layers of health history. It also helps maintain momentum if someone tends to plateau or relapse after initial improvement.

Fibonacci Homochords

The Fibonacci sequence (1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89…) appears everywhere in nature - in shells, flowers, plants, and even galaxies - and yes, in homeopathy too.

A Fibonacci Homochord follows this natural growth pattern, using potencies based on the Fibonacci sequence (for example, 3C, 5C, 8C, 13C, 21C, 34C, 55C, 89C, 144C, and 233C). This means each remedy contains ten potencies in one bottle, ranging from 3C up to 233C.

This fibonacci series is believed to stimulate the fastest yet most gentle results.

Super Potency

You might also hear the term Super Potency - this refers to a more advanced approach where different potency methods are combined, such as blending Kentian and Fibonacci homochords.
The goal is to elevate the remedy’s energetic range so it can reach all layers of healing - physical, emotional, mental, and even inherited or energetic patterns.

Super Potencies are often used when someone has responded well to treatment but then plateaus, or when there’s a deeper miasmatic or energetic layer that needs to shift. They help reignite the healing response and create a more stable, long-lasting result.
